| Studio “Nominum”, settled in Lithuania, is developing a charitable project “Cinema Odyssey of Kindness 2009”. The aim of this project is to inspire and organize charity screenings of the film “Before Flying Back to the Earth”, by director Arūnas Matelis. It is a project meant to enhance social awareness and tolerance towards children sick with cancer, as well as inspire various charitable moves – charity events, workshops, discussions and other activities – along with the screenings of the film. Since spring of 2009:
We wish to create an intercultural Odyssey to show the world that kindness and sharing are the way. We want to encourage everyone to take one extra step to help those in need. Mostly awaited result of the project is the real help for the children fighting cancer. The form which this project can assume – depending on the organizer of each particular Odyssey Stop – may vary. The projects that took place until now were all very different: there were Japanese traditional musicians’ performances in Lithuania, which they organized themselves (the purse they collected during their concerts was donated to Children Oncology department in Kaunas clinic, in order to buy new diagnostic apparatus); there is a long-term art project of donating pictures to Children Oncology centers around the World, developed by Lithuanian art teacher and painter and his pupils in Kretinga; an animation workshop was organized in Estonia in order to introduce children fighting cancer with the animation technique – so that they experience the joy of creating; a cycle of lectures on cancer and puppet–making workshop was organized in a Hungarian school (the puppets were later sent to Lithuania, as a gift to the hospital in which the film was shot). Just recently the Odyssey has had its first event in the United States. During a Lithuanian communities’ Christian summer camp a screening was held, followed by a discussion and a good-will action – the participants of the summer camp wrote letters to the children in Lithuanian hospitals, filled with compassion and love. We invite You to join the Cinema Odyssey of Kindness 2009 by organizing a charitable event along with the screening of the documentary “Before Flying Back to the Earth” in your town, county or country.
